Robots and Wrestlers: Locas in Love

In the 1980s Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez published their first issue of Love and Rockets. The comic is still published today.

Jaime's "Locas" story follows the lives of the people of Hoppers, a fictional city based on their hometown of Oxnard, CA. It starts in the early days of the LA punk scene with Margarita "Maggie" Luisa Chascarrillo and Esperanza "Hopey" Leticia Glass and follows their on-again, off-again romance.

The stories include Chicano gangs, '80s California, punk rock, and women wrestlers. I was a punk rocker in the 80s and I love it.

And this stuff is really good. Powell's Books writes "Locas is one of the great American novels of the last 25 years, graphic or otherwise."
